A major fire has engulfed the forested area in the village of Rras, in the Administrative Unit of Ungrej, Lezhë, adding pressure to a situation that has been problematic for days. According to the official version from the field, the flames have threatened the village cemetery and church, while strong winds are making it harder to contain them.
The flames moved close to the cemetery and the church
The fire has spread quickly through the forested area of Rras, at a time when conditions on the ground are reported to have worsened. According to notifications from the fire service, the most immediate danger has appeared near the village cemetery and church.
For local authorities, confronting the flames remains complicated because of the strong wind, which has favored the spread of the fire in an area where intervention is not easy.
Cemetery under control, intervention shifts to the church
According to firefighters, the fire hotspot near the cemetery has been brought under control, reducing the risk in that section for the moment.
Intervention is now focused near the village church, where work is under way to isolate the flames and prevent the further spread of the fire.
Four straight days on the ground
For four days, several vehicles and firefighting forces from the Municipality of Lezhë have been deployed in the Kashnjet area to tackle the fire hotspots.
However, the situation is reported to have worsened in recent days. The wind and difficult terrain are also highlighting the limits of the response on the ground, while the fire continues to remain a serious threat to the area.
At this stage, attention remains on stopping the spread of the flames near village sites and on controlling the active hotspots in Rras.
