Celine Dion has returned to the stage in Paris with her first live performance in more than six years, a moment that comes after a long withdrawal from musical activity due to health problems.
Emotion in her first appearance before the public
In a hall filled with fans, the Canadian singer appeared visibly emotional during her return to the stage.
Before the audience, Dion said it was “amazing that we are all together,” while thanking fans for their support and patience during the difficult years away from the stage.
She also recalled the promise she had made to return again, stressing that she was singing both for the audience and for herself.
Withdrawal after a serious diagnosis
Dion’s last full performance had been in 2020 as part of the “Courage” tour. She later canceled the planned North American leg of the tour in 2022 after being diagnosed with SPS, known as Stiff Person Syndrome.
It is a rare autoimmune neurological disorder that causes muscle stiffness and painful spasms, with intensity that can vary. No definitive cure is known for the condition.
Rare appearances in recent years
After the diagnosis, Dion withdrew almost completely from the stage and has appeared only on a few special occasions.
These included a virtual charity event for healthcare workers during the pandemic in 2020, the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympic Games in 2024, where she performed Édith Piaf’s “Hymne à l’amour,” as well as the closing of designer Elie Saab’s fashion show in Riyadh that same year.
26 shows in Paris after high demand
The first concert in Paris opens a series of 26 shows at the “Plenitude Arena,” scheduled from September 12, 2026 to May 29, 2027.
The number of concerts was increased from 10 to 26 because of high demand for tickets. According to reports, around 1.17 million tickets were sold within a few hours, while more than 9 million fans tried to secure them.
The repertoire for these evenings is expected to include some of her best-known songs, including “My Heart Will Go On,” “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now,” “The Power of Love” and “Pour que tu m’aimes encore.”
The return to the stage marks an important moment in the career of the 58-year-old artist, who for years has been facing one of the toughest health challenges of her life.
Her live appearance in Paris places Celine Dion once again at the center of international public attention, this time not only for the music, but also for the personal weight this comeback carries.
