Spain do not stop in the Nations League. The Iberian side beat the Czech Republic 3-1 in Oviedo, recorded a third consecutive win and preserved top spot in Group A3 with maximum points.
Fast start and control of the match
The hosts broke the deadlock as early as the 6th minute, when Lamine Yamal scored from distance and immediately set the tempo of the game. Spain kept control of play and continually applied pressure on the Czech defence.
The second goal came in the 35th minute. Rodri finished off a well-worked move to make it 2-0, reinforcing Spain’s advantage before the break.
The Czech Republic’s response was not enough
In the second half, the Czech Republic tried to get back into the game and cut the deficit in the 69th minute through Slama. For a few minutes, the match became more open, with the visitors looking to take advantage of their best spell.
However, the effort to level the score did not last long. In the end, Merino sealed Spain’s victory and settled the contest.
Top spot remains in Spanish hands
With this success, Spain move to 9 points after three matches and remain in first place in Group A3. In the previous two fixtures, they had won 3-2 against England and 4-1 against Croatia.
The record so far confirms a perfect run by the Spaniards in the group, at least at this stage of the competition.
Other results of the evening
In League B, Scotland won 2-0 against North Macedonia in Skopje. Kieron Bowie opened the scoring, while John McGinn added the second goal from the penalty spot.
Switzerland, meanwhile, beat Slovenia 2-1 and continue their perfect run in Group B1. After three matches, the Swiss lead with 9 points, while Scotland climb into second place. North Macedonia remain without a point.
Spain are coming through this phase of the Nations League with authority, while their group rivals remain in pursuit after another evening in which the gap was visible both on the scoreboard and in control of the game.
