A large party in Vienna, Georgia, turned into a scene of bloodshed after gunfire left two people dead and around 30 injured. The preliminary toll comes from local authorities, while at this stage no arrests have been reported.
The shooting erupted in a crowd of more than 1,000 people
The incident happened overnight between Saturday and Sunday, at a party spread across an area of about four blocks. According to publicly released information, more than 1,000 people were in the area when the shooting began.
The scale of the event and the high number of participants make the failure to contain the consequences even more severe, while the official version describes an attack that struck the crowd in the middle of the party.
Two victims died at the scene
The victims have been identified as Jaquevion Jackson, 21, of Cordele, and Macaleb Jackson, 23, of Hawkinsville. Both, according to authorities, died at the scene from gunshot wounds.
Around 30 other people were injured. The wounded range in age from 14 to 51 and were taken to several hospitals in the area, while some are reported to be in critical condition.
More than 50 bullets and two separate shooting points
According to local authorities, more than 50 rounds were fired toward the crowd. The same official account says the shooting may have occurred at at least two different points, separated by about one block.
This detail suggests an even more chaotic episode than initially reported, but the full circumstances remain unclear.
Not all of the injured were hit by bullets
Authorities clarified that not all of the injured suffered gunshot wounds. Some people were hurt in the panic and in the attempt to flee the scene.
So far, no one has been arrested. The investigation, according to local police, is continuing to determine the exact circumstances of the attack and identify those responsible.
The toll so far places this incident among the most serious episodes of armed violence reported recently in the United States.
