The White House may soon have another name at its communications podium. According to a U.S. administration official who spoke to the BBC, conservative commentator Katie Zacharia has been offered the post of press secretary, following Karoline Leavitt’s departure in August.

The proposed name for the post
The official version made public so far speaks of an offer, not a finalized appointment. If Zacharia accepts, she would become Donald Trump’s sixth main spokesperson across his two administrations.
The move comes in a role that has seen frequent turnover, making any new appointment part of a communications apparatus continually tested by political clashes in Washington.
Katie Zacharia’s ties to Trump’s circle
Zacharia currently works as a communications adviser at Trump Media & Technology Group, the company that operates the Truth Social platform.
She previously also served as a spokesperson at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, but only for a short period. This profile places her among the figures who move between institutional communications and the media orbit close to Trump.
Why the vacancy opened up
The post became vacant after Karoline Leavitt left the position in August.
According to reports in the U.S. media, Leavitt has received an offer to work as a contributor at Fox News, another move that feeds the familiar circulation between politics, spokesperson roles and television screens in the United States.
So far, there has been no public confirmation on whether Katie Zacharia will accept the offer.
For now, the matter remains at the stage of signals from the administration and media reporting, while the final decision is expected to clarify who will take one of the most high-profile political communications posts in the United States.
