The majority is seeking a tough disciplinary measure against two opposition MPs. The Ethics Secretariat is expected to decide today on the Socialist Party’s request to suspend Gazment Bardhi and Klevis Balliu for two months from the work of Parliament.

The Socialist Party’s request goes to the Ethics Secretariat
According to the request submitted by the Socialist Party, Bardhi and Balliu should be suspended from plenary sessions and parliamentary committees for a two-month period.
The decision is expected to be taken by the Ethics Secretariat, which is reviewing the case after tensions recorded in Parliament during the vote on Territorial Reform.
What the majority claims about the incidents in Parliament
The majority’s version is that during the session, the two Democratic Party MPs threw water bottles and eggs toward Prime Minister Edi Rama, cabinet members and Socialist MPs.
In the document signed by 10 Socialist Party MPs, their conduct is described as a serious incident, accompanied by insults, provocations and physical attacks. At this stage, the request remains a political claim awaiting the formal assessment of the parliamentary body.
What happens if the request is approved
If the Ethics Secretariat rules in favor of the majority, Bardhi and Balliu will remain outside plenary sessions and committees for two months.
In addition to the ban on participation in parliamentary activity, the measure also provides for the suspension of pay during the exclusion period.
The case brings back into focus the sharp clash between the majority and the opposition inside Parliament, where disciplinary measures are often also read as an instrument of political pressure.
It remains to be seen whether the Ethics Secretariat will consider the Socialist Party’s request a proportionate response to the reported incidents or confirm another escalation of parliamentary conflict.
