The student protest outside the Ministry of Education escalated this Tuesday into episodes of violence and damage to the building, once again raising questions over the institutional management of gatherings and security at one of the country’s main institutions.
From eggs to hard objects
According to footage and reports from the scene, protesters began by throwing eggs and spraying the walls of the Ministry of Education building.
The situation then worsened further, when bricks and hard objects were thrown toward the building, causing the window panes to shatter.
Railings removed, protesters enter the perimeter
At the height of the tension, protesters tore out the iron railings placed on the sidewalk and used them during the clash near the building.
Some of them managed to enter the Ministry’s perimeter, taking the protest to another level of escalation beyond a symbolic gathering or ordinary political pressure.
Attempt to enter the building
After entering the perimeter, there were also attempts to tear open the iron door and force entry into the building.
Flares were also thrown in the area, while the chants heard during the protest indicated a strongly confrontational atmosphere.
Questions over the institutional response
The incident highlights not only the tension of the protest, but also the weaknesses of the authorities in preventing the situation from deteriorating near a central institution.
So far, what is known is that the building has suffered damage, while the full sequence of the intervention by the responsible forces remains to be clarified by the official version.
