A video published by Mundesia Party MP Erald Kapri has brought renewed attention to how protesters are being treated while in police custody. The footage shows a young man whom Kapri claims was assaulted while being transported in a police van after the protest in Tirana.
The MP’s claims about the young man’s detention
According to Kapri, the young man had committed no act of violence and was taken by police while he was at the protest. The MP described his condition as psychologically distressed, saying he was terrorized by what he had experienced.
Direct allegations of violence during transport
In his public reaction, Kapri claims the violence was not inflicted inside the police station, but on the way there, in the police van. This detail, if verified, raises serious questions about how escorted individuals are treated and about oversight of officers’ actions during transport.
Kapri said that after several hours, together with Agron Shehaj, he managed to get the young man out of the police station. He added that he then personally accompanied him home.
