Tirana enters a day of protests today with two separate gatherings, both carrying strong political and public weight. At midday, the opposition has announced a gathering outside the Prime Minister’s Office, while a few hours later students are expected to protest again at the Ministry of Education, signaling that they are not backing down from their demands despite the government’s calls for dialogue.

Opposition calls protest at 12:00

The Democratic Party has called on its supporters to protest today at 12:00 in front of the Prime Minister’s Office, saying the gathering is being held in support of the students’ cause.

The appeal was made by PD leader Sali Berisha, who presented the protest as an issue that, according to him, goes beyond political divisions.

Students return to the Ministry of Education

At 14:00, a national student protest is expected outside the Ministry of Education. The gathering comes at a time when the government has called for dialogue, but the students have warned that they will continue their resistance.

Lecturers have also expressed support for them, publicly standing in solidarity with the protesters.

1,200 officers on the ground under police plan

Because of the two gatherings, police have drawn up a set of measures to manage the situation in the capital.

According to publicly released information, 1,200 police officers have been deployed, an increased presence that also reflects the institutional concern surrounding the day’s developments.

Government offers communication channel, protest continues

A day earlier, Prime Minister Edi Rama presented a new online communication space through which citizens can address him and the government directly with their concerns.

However, the warning that the student protest will continue suggests that this communication format has not eased tensions or mistrust toward the institutional response.

Today’s two protests place Tirana at the center of the day’s political and social developments.

It remains to be seen whether the calls for dialogue will produce real calm, or whether dissatisfaction will deepen further in the streets.
