Tensions between Argentina and Brazil have escalated following statements by President Javier Milei, who leveled serious accusations against the Brazilian government, Mexico and the US Democratic Party. The main issue in this clash remains the lack of evidence for the claims publicly made by the Argentine head of state.
Strong accusations of an “anti-Argentine campaign”
During an interview with Radio Mitre, Milei said that the governments of Brazil and Mexico, together with the United States Democratic Party, had financed what he called an “anti-Argentine campaign” during the 2026 World Cup.
According to the version he presented, the Brazilian government would have covered around 25% of the funds for this initiative. He included Mexico and the US Democratic Party in the same accusation, presenting them as part of a political bloc opposed to the ideas he represents.
Claims without public backing
The Argentine president’s statements were not accompanied by concrete evidence. So far, no facts have been made public to support the accusations of financing or coordinating such a campaign.
This lack of documentation makes the clash even more politically sensitive, as the accusations were made at a high institutional level and carry direct consequences for diplomatic relations.
Escalation of the crisis with Brazil
Milei’s rhetoric toward Brazil sharpened even further a day earlier, when in São Paulo he took part in the launch of the presidential campaign of Flávio Bolsonaro, son of former president Jair Bolsonaro.
At that appearance, Milei called Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva a “prisoner” and a “thief,” pushing the crisis beyond the usual diplomatic tone.
Immediate response from Brasilia
The response from Brazilian authorities came quickly. Brazil’s Foreign Ministry summoned its ambassador in Buenos Aires for consultations, a clear signal that the clash has entered an official diplomatic phase.
At this point, the crisis is no longer based only on political statements but also on concrete institutional actions, placing relations between the two countries in a moment of open tension.
So far, the core of the debate remains unchanged: Javier Milei’s accusations have caused political and diplomatic shockwaves, but no public evidence to support them.
