A fatal workplace accident was recorded on Tuesday afternoon in Pristina, where a 26-year-old man lost his life after a crane collapsed during assembly at a construction site. Another worker was also injured in the incident, which has once again raised serious questions about the implementation of safety measures in the construction sector.

The crane collapse proved fatal for the young man
According to information made public so far, the crane collapsed during the assembly process at the site. For the 26-year-old, the impact was fatal, while another worker was injured in the incident.
The incident occurred in the afternoon and has mobilized the police, the prosecution, and the Labor Inspectorate in a case expected to examine not only the technical cause, but also whether workplace safety standards were observed.
Inspectorate: still too early to determine the cause, expert assessments expected
According to the official version of the Labor Inspectorate, at this stage it is still not possible to reach a conclusion about the cause of the accident, as the circumstances require further investigation and expert assessments.
According to the same institution, the checks will also focus on responsibility for implementing occupational safety and health measures, a key element whenever a construction site ends in tragedy.
Police and prosecution have launched the investigation
Kosovo Police said police units went to the scene and took the initial actions. The investigation is being conducted in coordination with the state prosecutor in order to fully clarify the circumstances of the case.
At this stage, the authorities have not provided further details on the specific causes or on the possible responsibilities of the individuals and entities involved in the construction site works.
Damage also reported to a house near the site
In addition to the victim and the injured worker, the crane collapse also caused material damage. The machine broke and fell onto the roof of a nearby house, significantly damaging the building.
The homeowner said that at the time of the incident no one was inside, which avoided even more serious consequences. Meanwhile, Pristina Mayor Perparim Rama expressed condolences to the family of the 26-year-old and said that workplace safety must be a non-negotiable condition.
The accident in Pristina brings renewed attention to the heavy toll of safety failures at construction sites, where institutional reaction often comes after tragedy has already happened.
Answers about the cause of the crane collapse and the real level of oversight at the workplace now remain in the hands of the investigation and expert assessments.
