A 20-year-old man from Kosovo, Gent (Milot) Maksutaj, was killed on Sunday evening in Uppsala, Sweden, in an incident that, according to local reports, is being investigated as a possible targeted attack. So far, the version provided by Swedish authorities speaks of the detention of a person under the age of 18, without ruling out the involvement of other individuals.
The incident in Uppsala
According to information published by Swedish media, the victim is Gent (Milot) Maksutaj, 20, from the village of Banjë in Istog.
The incident took place in the Kvarngärdet area of the city of Uppsala, after police received a report of gunfire at around 21:00 on Sunday evening.
Suspicions of a planned attack
According to Swedish media reports, the killing is suspected to have been a planned execution rather than a random incident.
According to the same reports, the suspected perpetrator approached on a bicycle, first shot at the 20-year-old and, after he fell to the ground, is suspected of approaching again to fire once more.
Detention of the suspect
After the crime, the suspect is reported to have fled by train in the direction of Stockholm.
Later, according to the version of the Swedish authorities, he was arrested by police. The Swedish prosecution has said that the detained person is under the age of 18.
Investigation remains open
Although one person has been detained, Swedish investigators have not ruled out the possibility that other people may also have been involved in the killing.
So far, the authorities have not confirmed whether the incident is linked to organized crime groups. The motive for the killing, according to the official version, remains unclear and under investigation.
