A serious incident has shaken Albania’s mountaineering and search-and-rescue community. Erkin Lika, 39, is suspected to have lost his life after falling from rocks near Ura e Vashës, in the Klos area, on Saturday afternoon. According to preliminary reports, he fell into a deep rocky area while he was with his group.
According to information available so far, Lika was part of a team engaged in search-and-rescue activities and was known as a passionate mountaineer. It is suspected that at the time of the incident he was photographing members of the group when he slipped and fell into the ravine.
Immediately after the alert, emergency teams and search-and-rescue services were mobilized to intervene in the difficult terrain where the accident occurred. The operation is continuing under challenging conditions due to the area’s steep relief.
Authorities are expected to clarify the full circumstances of the incident after investigative procedures and the search operation are completed. So far, the information remains preliminary, and there is still no official announcement on the exact causes of the accident.
