A large fire broke out this afternoon in Vlorë’s Soda Forest, sending a dense mass of smoke over part of the city and putting response capacities on the ground to the test.
Flames near the Zvërnec area
According to preliminary information, the fire broke out inside the pine forest, near the railway line in the Zvërnec area. The smoke became visible from several neighborhoods of Vlorë, while its spread has increased concern among residents.
So far, there is no official data on the area affected by the flames, while the cause of the fire remains unclear. This still leaves unanswered the basic question of how such a blaze started in an area with dense vegetation and high summer risk.
Response on the ground and difficulties
After the alert, Police forces and fire services were sent to the area and are working to isolate and extinguish the flames. According to the preliminary version from the authorities, the situation is difficult due to the wind and the terrain’s dense vegetation, which favors the fire’s advance.

Five active fire hotspots in Vlorë
Sources from the fire service say that there are currently five active fire hotspots in Vlorë at the same time. In addition to Soda Forest, interventions are also being carried out in Dukat, near the Llogara Tunnel, in the Freight Park area, and in Triport.
This situation once again raises questions about the real capacity to manage emergencies at the peak of the season, when the distribution of forces across several fronts makes it more difficult to bring the flames quickly under control.
