The race to lead the General Prosecution Office has gained another candidate. Ylli Pjeternikaj has also submitted his candidacy to the High Prosecutorial Council, further expanding the list of names seeking one of the most sensitive posts in the justice system.
A third name in the candidacy process
According to reporting by journalist Anila Hoxha, Ylli Pjeternikaj has submitted the documentation and expressed interest in competing for the post of Prosecutor General.
At this stage, the submitted candidacies also include Adnan Xholi and Rovena Zoto. The deadline for submitting applications ends on August 1, which means the list could expand until the close of the procedure.
Pjeternikaj’s profile
Ylli Pjeternikaj holds the academic degree of Doctor of Sciences in the field of law and serves simultaneously as a prosecutor and lecturer at the School of Magistrates.
His career has developed across several prosecution offices in the country. He has served as a prosecutor in Kukës, Lezhë, Tirana and Shkodër, while in the latter he also held a leadership position.
Academic engagement and specialization
Pjeternikaj is presented with a profile that combines prosecutorial practice with involvement in teaching and scientific research. He is the author and co-author of works in the field of criminal law.
He is also listed as specialized in cybercrime through the Cranfield University program, under the Chevening Western Balkans Cyber Security Fellowship scholarship.
Involvement in forums and reforms
In the data made public for his candidacy, Pjeternikaj is also mentioned as a member of the Editorial Board of the International Association of Prosecutors and of the Association Internationale de Droit Pénal.
