A series of fires in two areas of Durrës caused material damage in the early hours of the morning, burning 10 waste bins and engulfing 3 parked vehicles in flames. According to preliminary information, authorities suspect deliberate arson.
The first fire near a school
The first case was recorded on “Enver Velja” street, near the 9-year school “Kushtrimi i Lirisë.” There, 8 waste bins were burned, while the flames quickly spread to three vehicles parked along the same street.
The damage to the cars came as a result of their proximity to the seat of the fire, raising questions about safety in a residential area and near an educational institution.
Two other cases on “Mujo Ulqinaku”
A little later, 2 other waste bins were burned at two different points on “Mujo Ulqinaku” street. With these cases, the total number of destroyed bins reached 10.
The two streets where the incidents were recorded intersect with each other, an element that, according to the initial suspicions, is being taken into consideration in reconstructing the movements of the suspected perpetrator.
Initial suspicions and the police version
According to the preliminary version, all the cases are suspected to have been caused by the same perpetrator. The initial suspicion is that he first moved along “Enver Velja” street and then toward “Mujo Ulqinaku,” where the other fires were also recorded.
At this stage, these are investigative suspicions and not a proven version, while the full circumstances of the incident remain to be clarified.
Firefighters’ intervention
Firefighters intervened to bring the flames under control and prevent the further spread of the fire in the area.
Police have launched an investigation to identify the perpetrator and fully clarify the incident.
The incident once again highlights the exposure of public spaces and parked vehicles to such acts, while the investigation is expected to determine whether this was a chain of deliberate arson attacks in the same area of the city.
