Naum Panxhi Canal Breach Blocks Elbasan-Cerrik Road, Traffic Diverted

The emergency was reported at around 11:00

The incident was reported at around 11:00, when the main “Naum Panxhi” canal breached, causing a sudden surge of water along with debris onto the road surface.

As a result, the Elbasan-Cerrik road was blocked, creating immediate problems for traffic on one of the area’s road links.

Traffic was diverted as intervention began on the ground

According to the structures engaged in the area, teams from the Agency of Rural Public Services, in cooperation with the Traffic Police, intervened to manage the situation.

The first measures consisted of diverting vehicles toward alternative routes, with the aim of easing circulation and avoiding a total blockage.

Responsibility for the canal lies with the Drainage Board

According to information from the scene, for more than two hours the structures of the Agency of Rural Public Services have maintained continuous contact with the Drainage Board, in whose inventory the main “Naum Panxhi” canal is listed.

This detail also shifts attention to drainage infrastructure and how high-risk segments are managed, especially when the damage ends up directly affecting road traffic.

Secondary canals have been opened to curb the spread of water

According to the official version, vehicles and workers have been engaged on the ground to clear the road of water and debris.

Meanwhile, as an emergency measure to avoid further flooding in the surrounding areas, all secondary irrigation canals have been opened.

Full stabilization of the situation is awaited

Local authorities are awaiting the full intervention of the Drainage Board for the final stabilization of the situation and the restoration of normal traffic on the Elbasan-Cerrik road.

Until then, vehicle movement remains dependent on diversion measures and the pace of cleanup work on the ground.

The incident once again raises questions about the condition of the main canals and the response of the structures responsible for their maintenance, especially when the damage first appears on roads and affects citizens directly.

For the moment, traffic on the Elbasan-Cerrik road remains affected by the situation created after the canal breach.
