According to the official announcement, Klodiana Spahiu takes over as Health Minister after the departure of Evis Sala, who had resigned a day earlier.
The change at the top of the health sector comes in an area that for years has faced repeated management problems, pressure on public hospitals, and debate over service standards, making every new appointment more than a formal cabinet move.
Academic background and specializations
Klodiana Spahiu completed her studies at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Tirana in 1997, in the “General Medicine” branch. Later, from 1998 to 2002, she specialized in cardiology at QSUT “Mother Teresa” in Tirana.
The public profile also includes other specializations in non-invasive cardiology, such as echocardiography, exercise ECG, and carotid echo-Doppler, at the Catholic University “Sacro Cuore,” Faculty of Medicine and Surgery “Agostino Gemelli” in Rome.
During the 2003-2004 period, she completed postgraduate studies at the Faculty of Medicine, in the Department of Preclinical Subjects. Later, from 2012 to 2014, she also completed a professional master’s degree in healthcare management.
Experience in public hospitals
Spahiu practiced as a physician in the First Cardiology Clinic at QSUT. She also worked as a cardiologist and in the pathology department at Durrës Hospital from 2003 to 2009.
She was later appointed director of Durrës Hospital, a role that places her profile not only in the clinical field but also in the administration of public healthcare institutions.
Teaching career and academic title
From 2002 to 2003, she was a lecturer in the Department of Preclinical Subjects at the University of Tirana. In 2006, she served as an external lecturer in physiology at “UFO” University, Tirana.
From 2008 onward, she has been engaged as a lecturer in cardiology practice at “Our Lady of Good Counsel” University. According to the public information released, she also holds the title “Doctor of Medical Sciences.”
Her appointment brings into focus not only her professional CV, but also expectations over how one of the most sensitive sectors of public administration will be led.
