A meeting organized in Brescia, Italy, was used by the opposition to strengthen its political message to Albanians living abroad. Democratic Party MP Klevis Balliu placed the emphasis on the role of the diaspora in political developments in Albania, while also repeating the political accusations that the opposition has long directed at the government.

The meeting in Brescia and the message to the diaspora
According to the event announcement, members of the Albanian diaspora gathered in Brescia for a meeting with Democratic Party MP Klevis Balliu, focused on the idea of “renewal,” political change, and the involvement of emigrants in the country’s future.
Balliu presented the diaspora as an influential factor on Albania’s political scene, arguing that its engagement could affect the direction the country will take in the future.
Call for a new political chapter
In his remarks, the DP lawmaker spoke of the need for political renewal, claiming that Albanians, both inside and outside the country, are seeking a new chapter for Albania.
This was the core of the event’s message, which was framed more as political mobilization by the opposition within the diaspora than as a broader debate on the concrete issues facing emigrants.
Accusations against the government remain central
During the meeting, Balliu repeated the opposition’s accusations against Edi Rama’s government, speaking of ties to crime and drugs. These remain political claims articulated by the opposition in its ongoing clash with the ruling majority.
He also said that the diaspora has not forgotten the issue of voting and that, according to him, it will remain engaged in political developments in Albania.
Thanks to DP structures in Italy
At the end of the event, Balliu thanked leaders and representatives of Democratic Party structures involved in organizing the meeting in Brescia.
Among those mentioned were the chairman of the DP branch in Brescia, Mr. Plaka, coordinator Edi Cekrezi, Diaspora Secretary Ethem Aga, and the mayor of Kavaja Municipality, Fisnik Qosja.
The meeting in Brescia took place as part of the Democrats’ engagement with the diaspora and served to reiterate the opposition’s message for political change.
Beyond the usual rhetoric of the political arena, it remains to be seen how real the impact of such meetings will be on the concrete involvement of the diaspora in Albanian decision-making.
