The Democratic Party is preparing for a nationwide protest against the new territorial map that, according to the opposition, divides the country into 46 municipalities. On the eve of the rally, the courtyard of the blue headquarters was used for a direct political message, with mannequins representing Prime Minister Edi Rama and several other well-known names from the majority and institutions.

The PD courtyard as a stage for political accusation

In the outdoor premises of the DP headquarters, mannequins of Belinda Balluku in prison clothing were displayed, as well as those of Ergys Agasi, Mirlinda Karçanaj and Erion Veliaj. At the center of this staging was also Edi Rama, whom the opposition has placed in the crosshairs of the next protest.

Democrats are demanding the prime minister’s resignation, linking this demand to what they consider a series of government scandals. Beyond the strong symbolism, it remains to be seen whether the protest will produce real political pressure or just another show of force in the streets.

The protest brings the opposition back to the square after five months

Five months after the last protest, the opposition is returning to public mobilization. Thursday’s rally is being presented as a reaction against the new territorial division, an issue that the DP has raised as a direct confrontation with the government.

However, the protest scenario has not been made public. This lack of transparency about how the rally will unfold leaves room for uncertainty, at a time when political tension between the majority and the opposition remains high.

Parliament under security measures, contact with MPs expected to be blocked

According to expectations, Parliament will be under strong security measures, as usually happens on Thursdays when there is a parliamentary session. The same wide security perimeter is also expected to be implemented, with the aim of avoiding contact between protesters and MPs.

This kind of physical isolation around institutions has now become common practice on protest days, shifting the debate from political substance to the police management of public discontent.

Berisha calls for a protest without symbols, MPs to stay away

A day earlier, Sali Berisha called for a protest without symbols. At the same time, opposition supporters have also asked MPs to stay away.

The message appears aimed at presenting the rally as a civic reaction and not simply a party one, even though the organization and the narrative remain clearly controlled by the political opposition.

Thursday’s protest is expected to be the next test of the DP’s ability to restore pressure in the streets against the government and against the new territorial division.

Beyond the strong staging and political rhetoric, the rally’s real weight will be measured by participation and by the message it manages to produce in a climate burdened by distrust toward institutions.
