Feta Mataj, the husband of former director Elisabeta Mataj, will remain in jail until the investigation is completed.

Durrës Post Office, ex-director’s husband kept in jail over alleged 25,000 lek ‘fine’

Security measure of imprisonment until the end of the investigation

Feta Mataj, the husband of the former director of the Albanian Post branch in Durrës, has been remanded in jail until the investigation is concluded.

He had been arrested a few days earlier by the economic crime unit. Shortly before the arrest, he had been appointed deputy director of the municipal cleaning and greenery enterprise at Durrës Municipality.

Employee statement and claim of monthly payments

According to the investigators’ version, the arrest came after, during questioning, an employee of the post office branch stated that Feta Mataj was demanding 25,000 lek from female employees every month.

At this stage, this remains a claim recorded in the investigative file, while the full dynamics of the case and individual responsibilities are expected to be clarified by the investigation.

Connection to the 69 million lek case

Feta Mataj’s name appears in the same context as the case that has shaken the Durrës Post Office branch, where the alleged misappropriation of 69 million new lek is under investigation.

These are funds intended for pension payments and social assistance, a particularly sensitive segment as it directly affects citizens in need and the use of public money.

Former director under house arrest

Also involved in this case is Elisabeta Mataj, the former director of the Durrës Post Office, who is under the security measure of house arrest.

The case once again raises questions about internal control filters in public institutions and about how suspicions linked to pension and social assistance funds can go on for a long time.

The investigation remains ongoing, while so far the harshest measure has been imposed on Feta Mataj, who will remain in jail until the investigative procedures are completed.

The weight of the accusations is tied not only to the claims of “fines” imposed on female employees, but also to the fact that the case involves money intended for pensioners and families benefiting from social assistance.
