Clashes in Tirana, Albana Koçiu responds: Albania does not need to burn

Koçiu’s reaction after the tensions

Through a Facebook post, Koçiu reacted to the situation created by the protests and acts of violence in Tirana.

She condemned the destruction of property and the clashes, presenting the situation as a risk to public order and to institutions.

Call for calm and restraint

According to Koçiu, these hours require calm, prudence and restraint. In her reaction, she stressed that institutions are public assets, businesses are a source of livelihood for citizens, while roads and public safety belong to everyone.

Her message focused on avoiding escalation, at a time when the protests were accompanied by images of flames and clashes in the capital.

Comparison with the past

In the published statement, the deputy prime minister also drew a comparison with previous episodes of political and institutional chaos in the country.

According to her, Albania has paid a high price for the cost of chaos in the past, when attacks on institutions and the destruction of property, according to her version, pushed the country into a crisis with long-lasting consequences for development, stability and public trust.

Political message: no burning for change

The central point of the reaction was the political formula used by Koçiu: that the country does not need “to burn” in order to change.

She argued that Albania needs to build, move forward and protect what has been achieved, placing the reaction in line with the government’s narrative against violence in protests.

The deputy prime minister’s reaction came as images of tension and clashes were circulating in Tirana, shifting the public debate to the boundary between protest and violence.

For the moment, Koçiu’s statement remains a political position of the government on the events, without bringing new elements beyond the call for calm and the condemnation of violence.
