Clashes near the Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ in Tirana have prompted a reaction from the Metropolitan of Korça, Anastas Mamaj, who raised his tone toward the State Police and the way tensions are being managed on the ground.

Reaction after the clashes near the cathedral
In a Facebook post, Mamaj reacted after incidents between police and protesters near the cathedral in the capital.
He asked the State Police to act within the limits of the law, without allowing the intervention to turn into violence or arbitrariness.
Direct appeal to the State Police
In his reaction, the Metropolitan used strong language toward the authorities, calling on the police to “immediately return to the track of the law and abandon every form of violence and arbitrariness.”
The statement comes at a time when the official version of the handling of the situation is facing public criticism over the proportionality of the intervention and the conduct of law enforcement forces.
Warning of legal and historical responsibility
Mamaj warns that the misuse of state authority does not end only with legal accountability, but also carries historical responsibility.
According to him, those who abuse power must also bear the burden for the consequences that any further escalation of tensions may bring.

“The State Police must immediately return to the track of the law and abandon every form of violence and arbitrariness. Those who misuse the authority of the state should know that their responsibility does not end before the law, but also extends before the judgment of history. They will also bear responsibility for any consequence that may result from the further escalation of tensions,” he writes.
The reaction of the Metropolitan of Korça places the focus on the way state authority is being exercised in situations of tension, in a climate where every police intervention requires not only official justification, but also a clear legal standard.
So far, there are no further details on whether there has been any response from the State Police to this public position.
