The government has expanded the 2,500-euro bonus scheme for State Police employees, in another decision taken amid tensions from the protests in Tirana. According to the official decision, not only has the number of beneficiaries increased, but the public fund made available for this reward has also been raised.

The number of beneficiaries increases
The new change by the Council of Ministers affects the decision approved on October 19, 2026 on bonuses for police officers. In the updated version, the number of beneficiaries rises from 2,750 to 2,821 employees.
The move comes at a time when the government links this scheme to the situation created by the violent protests in the capital, further expanding the list of officers who will receive the bonus.
The financial fund also increases
Alongside the number of beneficiaries, the financial cost of this decision has also increased. The fund initially set at 740,080,000 lek has been raised to 759,187,520 lek.
This means the change is not merely technical in the list of names, but also directly affects the total amount of public money that will be used for the reward.
The decision takes effect immediately
According to the approved act, the new decision takes effect immediately and is expected to be published in the Official Gazette.
With this second intervention within just a few days, the government is revising the police bonus scheme in real time, while costs are increasing along with the number of beneficiaries.
In essence, the latest change affects two key elements: how many State Police employees will benefit and how much money will come out of the budget for this purpose.
Beyond the official wording, the decision also raises another public question: why the scheme approved just a few days earlier proved insufficient and required its immediate expansion.
