Parliament was gripped by tension from the very start of the first plenary session after the protests, with clashes between the opposition and the majority inside the chamber. What was supposed to be a normal parliamentary session quickly deteriorated into a blockade of the podium and threatening confrontations between MPs.

Chaos in Parliament after the protests, clash between PD and PS, session suspended amid tension

The session began with clashes immediately after the agenda was read

Tensions erupted as soon as the agenda was read out by Speaker of Parliament Niko Peleshi. At that moment, PD MPs blocked the podium, turning the opening of the session into yet another fierce political confrontation.

Images and information published show that the atmosphere in the chamber was heated from the first minutes, in a Parliament that for some time has functioned more as a space for confrontation than for institutional debate.

The clash shifted near the Socialist benches

The situation worsened further when PS parliamentary group leader Taulant Balla took the floor. PD MPs approached his seat, while Flamur Noka, according to the version reported from the chamber, pushed him and pulled away his microphone.

This episode deepened the chaos in the chamber and once again highlighted the degradation of the standard of political representation, where physical confrontation is taking the place of parliamentary discussion.

Parliament remains an arena of political tension

The first session after the protests confirmed that the clash between the sides is not remaining at the level of political statements, but is being transferred directly into the institution that is supposed to produce laws and exercise oversight over the government.

Instead of a debate on issues affecting citizens, the parliamentary chamber was dominated by tension, blockades and incidents between MPs, raising further questions about the actual functioning of parliamentary life.

What happened in the plenary session once again puts the focus on the crisis of representation and on the way political conflicts are eroding the minimum function of Parliament.

Beyond the day’s clashes, institutional responsibility remains essential to clarify the incidents and to avoid the normalization of political violence inside the parliamentary chamber.
