Berisha’s statement and Peleshi’s intervention
During his speech, Berisha declared that Socialist MPs “deserved the rubber bullets and tear gas” used in the protest.
Following that statement, Parliament Speaker Niko Peleshi intervened by taking the floor away from Berisha for the entire day. The decision immediately deepened the clash in the chamber, in a session already unfolding amid high tensions.

Thursday’s incident returned Parliament to a familiar scenario of blockages and interruptions, once again highlighting the crisis in the normal functioning of parliamentary life.
