On the eve of Saturday’s protest in Tirana, the United States Embassy issued a warning to its citizens, urging them to avoid areas where gatherings and movement near government institutions are expected. The notice comes at a time when authorities are speaking about security measures, while for residents it may translate into possible restrictions on movement and public services.

Embassy warning ahead of the protest
The U.S. Embassy in Tirana has called on American citizens to exercise caution and stay away from areas where demonstrations are taking place in the capital.
According to its notice, protests in central Tirana and near government institutions have continued, while in some cases, according to the embassy’s account, they have ended in violent clashes and property damage.
Risks listed in the notice
The warning mentions possible exposure to tear gas, fireworks fired horizontally, incendiary devices and rubber projectiles for anyone near protest areas.
For this reason, the embassy said its own personnel have also been instructed to avoid all areas where demonstrations are taking place.
Possibility of blockages and restrictions in Tirana
According to the notice, other demonstrations may take place not only in Tirana but also in other cities across the country in the coming days.
This, according to the embassy, may lead to an increased police presence, traffic blockages, traffic diversions and road closures around protest areas.
Public services could also be affected
The same notice warns that Tirana may face other restrictions in public services, including urban transport and the functioning of government institutions.
American citizens are urged to avoid protests, follow local media and authorities’ instructions, and have an emergency plan or exit route from areas where gatherings may occur.
The embassy’s warning places the emphasis on the practical risk on the ground, in a situation where the protest and security measures are expected to directly affect movement in the capital.
Beyond the language of diplomatic caution, the message is clear: areas near government institutions could become flashpoints and difficult to access for residents.
