Lawyer Plarent Ndreca has raised doubts about how Erion Veliaj’s medical treatment is being managed at Fier prison, stating that the examination needed to monitor the progress of his leg fracture has still not been carried out. According to him, the official request for this procedure was filed nearly two weeks ago.

Statement after the meeting inside the prison
After meeting the mayor of Tirana, Ndreca said Veliaj is in the hospital sector of Fier prison because of the leg fracture and the need for treatment and recovery.
According to the lawyer, the delay in carrying out the examination remains unexplained, even though, in his account, there have been repeated requests and instructions from the doctor overseeing the recovery.
The examination not carried out and institutional responsibilities
Ndreca said that the examination needed to assess the consolidation of the fracture was officially requested nearly two weeks ago, but has still not been carried out.
In the absence of a public explanation from the responsible institutions, it remains unclear why such a medical procedure, presented as necessary by the defense and by the attending doctor, was not carried out in time.
Responses for the Justice Minister
The lawyer also said that Veliaj handed him several pages removed from his personal diary, where, according to Ndreca, the responses communicated to the Justice Minister regarding the requests made to him were written.
According to the lawyer’s statement, those responses are expected to be made public.
Where Veliaj is currently being held
Veliaj is in Fier prison, where he was transferred to the institution’s hospital sector to continue treatment and recovery from the leg fracture.
At this stage, public information about his health condition and the progress of medical procedures has come mainly from his defense team, while the institutions have provided no detailed clarification about the alleged delay.
The issue raises questions not only about Veliaj’s health condition, but also about how medical requests are handled within the penitentiary system.
For now, the claims about the lack of the examination have been made public by his lawyer, while an institutional response is still missing.
