The bill on the new administrative-territorial division has won approval in the Laws Committee, in a process where the opposition’s absence from the final vote makes an intervention of major weight on the local governance map even more contentious.

Laws Committee Approves Bill on New Territorial Map, Opposition Absent From Vote

Approval in committee with 8 votes in favor

According to the notice from the meeting of the Committee on Legal Affairs and Public Administration, the bill was first approved in principle and then article by article.

In the overall vote, the initiative passed with 8 votes in favor, no votes against and no abstentions. At this stage, opposition members were not present at the meeting.

Bill moves to Parliament

After passing through the Laws Committee, the bill on the new administrative-territorial division is expected to go to the plenary session, where lawmakers in Parliament will be asked to vote on it.

This is an intervention that, according to the government, affects the organization of local governance and the change of the administrative map.

Earlier there was debate and votes against

A few hours earlier, the same committee had approved in principle the bill on the administrative-territorial reform.

In that vote, the bill passed with 8 votes in favor and 5 against, following debates between the majority and the opposition, showing that the initiative has not passed without political objections.

Meeting was suspended for a 30-minute break

After approval in principle, the Laws Committee suspended the meeting for a 30-minute break before returning to the further review and voting on the bill.

Its passage in committee now opens the parliamentary phase of a reform that is usually accompanied by political clashes over local representation and electoral balances.

The vote without the opposition’s presence in the final phase gives the majority a procedurally clean passage in committee, but not necessarily political consensus for such a sensitive change to the local map.

The next stop remains Parliament, where the bill will face the test of the plenary vote.
