Prime Minister Edi Rama has published footage on social media from works on the “Sixth Road,” a route that, according to the government, is intended to shorten the distance and avoid traffic at the entrance to Saranda. Alongside the video, Rama also repeated the latest political deadline: the tunnel is expected to be completed next year.

What the government claims about the project
According to the message published by Rama, the investment is intended to ease circulation, reduce traffic and improve movement for residents and tourists who frequent Saranda.
In his post, the head of government presents the “Sixth Road” and the opening of the tunnel as one of the most important infrastructure investments for the coastal city.
Promise of completion within next year
According to the official version, works are progressing “at a fast pace” and the project is expected to be completed next year.
So far, no further technical details have been made public in this communication about the specific phase of the works, the costs, or other elements that would help verify the project’s actual progress.
Saranda and the burden of seasonal traffic
Saranda faces heavy traffic every season, especially during the summer, when the flow of tourists adds pressure to the city’s entrances, exits and connecting roads.
It is precisely this problem that underpins the government’s argument for the importance of the intervention, linking the project to easing movement for residents and visitors.
For the moment, the only deadline publicly articulated remains the one given by the prime minister: completion of the tunnel during next year.
In the absence of more official data on progress, the project remains another test to be measured not by promotional footage, but by concrete implementation on the ground.
