Prime Minister Edi Rama has published footage on Facebook from Kanye West’s concert, held the previous night in Tirana, presenting the event as an “excellent investment” in promoting Albania and boosting the capital’s economy. Up to this point, however, that assessment remains part of the official position, as the post is not accompanied by figures or concrete indicators for the claimed benefits.

Rama calls Kanye West concert an ‘investment’ for Tirana, without giving figures on the benefits

Rama’s post and the event’s political message

In his social media reaction, Rama described the concert as a “magical evening” in Tirana and said that 80 different nationalities came together there.

According to the prime minister’s version, the event carried not only symbolic weight but also economic significance, being presented as an activity with a positive impact on the city and on the country’s tourism image.

Claim of economic impact, but no public balance sheet

At the core of Rama’s message was the idea that organizing the concert brought benefits to Tirana’s economy. But the published material provides no concrete data on economic turnover, the number of visitors who came from abroad, or the real effect on sectors such as hospitality, transport and services.

This leaves the assessment at the level of a declaration, supported by the government’s narrative of major events as instruments of promotion and economic development.

Focus on Albania’s tourism image

Rama also linked the concert to the promotion of Albania as a tourist destination, considering the event an investment in the country’s image.

This too is a claim that, according to the post, is supported by the political perception of the event rather than by a detailed report on media exposure, costs or the measurable results of that promotion.

So far, the prime minister has made public only the political assessment of the concert and a video postcard from the evening’s atmosphere in Tirana.

In the absence of concrete data, it remains unclear how much of the “excellent investment” proclaimed by the government actually translates into measurable benefit for the capital’s economy and for Albania as a tourist destination.
