The strike near Kyiv and the casualty toll

According to Ukrainian authorities, 10 people were killed in the missile strike on the exhibition near the capital, while President Volodymyr Zelensky said around 100 people were wounded.

The incident has raised serious questions about the security of an event where, according to Zelensky, important representatives of the defense industry had gathered. The Ukrainian presidency has itself announced the launch of an investigation into how the event was organized and what security measures had been taken.

What Ukraine’s Air Force said

According to Ukraine Air Force spokesperson Yuri Ihnat, the attack was carried out with three ballistic missiles. Of these, only one was intercepted by Ukrainian air defenses.

This detail once again shows the limits of air defense against such attacks, especially when targets are struck near important centers or high-profile events.

Moscow’s version of the target

Russia’s Defense Ministry confirmed the attack and said it had used long-range, high-precision weapons. According to Moscow, the target was a site where drone technology used for attacks on civilian targets in Russian territory was being demonstrated.

Russia also claimed that drone manufacturers, representatives of Ukraine’s drone forces, and members of the security services involved in planning attacks against Russia were at the event. These claims remain part of Moscow’s official version.

More victims in Sloviansk and Sumy

The attacks were not limited to the area near Kyiv. According to Ukrainian military officials, five people were killed in Russian glide bomb strikes on the eastern city of Sloviansk.

At the same time, two men were killed in the northern city of Sumy. These strikes add to the reported death toll in several parts of the country, as the war continues to hit not only the front line but also urban centers.

Concerns over the safety of participants

After the strike near Kyiv, there were also concerns over the fate of Defense Ministry adviser Serhiy Beskrestnov, known as “Flash,” as well as Lyuba Shypovych, who is involved in the development of military technology.

Both later confirmed on social media that they had not been injured. Beskrestnov said he had decided not to attend the event because of security concerns.

The strike near Kyiv once again underscores the vulnerability of high-profile events during wartime and the questions that arise whenever such targets are hit with heavy human consequences.

Amid the conflicting versions of the two sides and the investigation announced by Ukrainian authorities, the incident remains further evidence that the war is deepening not only the death toll but also the security crisis on the ground.
