The Socialist Party has unveiled its proposal for territorial reform, a move that directly affects the map of local government and reopens the debate over top-down decision-making for local units. According to the version made public, 15 municipalities are set to be merged, while the total number of municipalities remains 61.
Which municipalities are affected by the proposal
The list of municipalities expected to be merged includes Fushë-Arrëz, Klos, Rrogozhinë, Dimal, Poliçan, Patos, Divjakë, Selenicë, Maliq, Këlcyrë, Memaliaj, Libohovë, Cërrik, Belsh and Përrenjas.
According to the Socialist Party proposal, these changes would be reflected in a reconfiguration of the administrative map, with direct consequences for local representation and the organization of services on the ground.
Përrenjas, the political test of this plan
One of the most notable points is the inclusion of Përrenjas in this scheme, through its merger with Librazhd.
