Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha has called on Democrats to join the national protest called for today, even though chants targeting him personally have also been heard continuously in the square and during the marches. Despite this mixed message from the ground, Berisha has chosen to treat the rally as a political blow against Edi Rama’s government.
Berisha’s call for participation
In his statement, Berisha urged PD supporters to join today’s protest, presenting it as a politically significant moment for the opposition.
He said Democrats should be part of the rally, which he described as a movement that, according to him, has shaken the government.
Chants against his name ignored
At the same time, chants against Berisha were also heard in the square and during the marches, but the PD leader did not dwell on this part of the message being voiced at the protest.
Instead of addressing this opposition directly, he chose to focus on mobilizing the party’s structures and supporters.
Political message to the government
Berisha described the protest in strongly political terms, declaring that Albanians from all over the world would be present on the boulevard and calling the gathering a “hurricane of freedom.”
According to his political version, this protest has put the government in difficulty and created a climate of pressure on Prime Minister Edi Rama.
PD and internal activity
During his message, Berisha also said that the Democratic Party is continuing its activity in line with the decisions of its most recent National Assembly.
He mentioned the party’s organization, digitalization and vision as areas where, according to him, work is being carried out every day with intensity.
Berisha’s call comes at a time when the protest is producing political messages that are not always uniform, including not only opposition to the government but also chants that target the main figures of the opposition.
This makes today’s mobilization a test not only of the protest’s strength in the streets, but also of the way the opposition is trying to control its public narrative.
