The end of summer does not appear calm at all for the government cabinet. According to sources from the government, Edi Rama is expected to gather ministers in Pogradec on August 24 and 25, in an informal meeting before the start of the new parliamentary session, while in the Socialist Party there is also talk of a scenario involving an Assembly at the beginning of September, with possible weight for the fate of some ministers.

The version made public by government sources speaks of a two-day meeting on August 24 and 25, where ministers will report on the priorities of each ministry for the coming months.
The meeting is expected to be held in Pogradec and follows the prime minister’s familiar practice of informal government meetings before the full return of political and parliamentary life. At this stage, the signal is clear: holidays for the cabinet are postponed and accountability is being demanded before the start of the new session.
The September 7 Assembly could turn into a test of strength
In parallel with the government meeting, within the Socialist Party the calling of the National Assembly at the beginning of September is not being ruled out, before Parliament resumes work on September 7.
If this political forum is convened, it could carry weight beyond organizational routine. In Socialist circles, it is being read as a possible moment when Rama could intervene in the composition of the cabinet, if he decides to send new political signals for the fourth term.
Talk of a refresh in at least six ministries
For several weeks, talk has been circulating within the government about a possible refresh of leadership in at least six ministries. So far, there has been no official confirmation of specific names or sectors, but the climate of political uncertainty appears to be present at the highest levels of the executive.
At this point, everything remains in the prime minister’s hands. Decision-making on any eventual changes has not been made public and, as is often the case in such situations, the cabinet is being kept waiting until the moment Rama chooses to speak himself.
Increased pressure within the majority
The beginning of September is expected to be busy not only for the government, but also for the Socialist Party. Within the majority, there is talk of increased demands for accountability by Rama toward his own ranks, also linked to the approach he has presented for the fourth governing term through the document called “Besa.”
If the Assembly is convened, the agenda is also expected to include the motion to open a national dialogue on a new agreement for Albania, submitted to the Socialist Party by MP Elisa Spiropali. This would turn the meeting into a forum with a double burden: political for the party and potentially decision-making for the government.
For now, the late August and early September calendar is being read as a warning of possible moves at the top of the executive.
In the absence of an official announcement of changes, it remains to be seen whether the ministers’ reporting will be simply a seasonal exercise or the prelude to a broader cabinet reconfiguration.
