Sali Berisha has attacked the government over how, according to him, the wildfire situation in the country has been handled, also raising the accusation that firefighters have not received any additional payment. At the same time, the Democratic Party leader linked this criticism to a call for mobilization in opposition protests which, according to him, will continue in the autumn.
Political accusations over wildfire management
In a conversation with journalists, Berisha described the week as a period marked by dozens of fire outbreaks which, according to him, have threatened inhabited areas, homes and the lives of citizens in several parts of the country.
In the same appearance, he accused the government of a lack of response and indifference, while using harsh political language toward the prime minister and ministers. These remain opposition claims at a time when public pressure on institutions rises whenever fires expose shortcomings on the ground.
Claim over firefighters’ payments
The strongest point of Berisha’s statement was the accusation that firefighters, engaged for more than two weeks on different fronts, have not received a single extra penny.
