Day 42 of the gathering

This Saturday marked the 42nd day of the protest in front of the Prime Minister’s Office, a gathering that has continued for weeks with direct political demands toward the government and its head.

According to the organization announced by the protesters themselves, citizens are demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama, as well as the removal of the entire current political class.

Gathering in the center and march on the boulevard

The protesters initially gathered in Skanderbeg Square, before continuing toward the Dëshmorët e Kombit Boulevard, where they positioned themselves to continue the gathering.

As on previous days, after chants and speeches, participants began marching through the streets of the capital.

Proposal for a morning protest on July 23

During the gathering, it was proposed that one of the protests be held in the morning, a move that appears aimed at shifting political pressure into the institutions’ regular working hours.

According to the announcement made by the protesters, a march is scheduled for July 23 at 08:30, from Skanderbeg Square toward Parliament.

Political demands articulated at the protest

Among the demands repeated at the gathering is the creation of a technical government, in addition to the removal of the entire old political class.

Also, for this Saturday a national protest had been called, announced a day earlier during the gathering outside the Prime Minister’s Office.

It remains to be seen how much participation the march announced for July 23 will draw and whether this move will manage to increase public pressure on the government.

So far, what can be observed is the continuation of a prolonged gathering in front of the country’s main executive institution, with demands that directly target the government and the entire political system.
