A vote that directly affects the party’s direction
LDK’s Extraordinary Assembly is scheduled to be held today, July 30, at 18:00. At the center of the meeting is a confidence vote on chairman Lumir Abdixhiku, who is facing a direct test of his political mandate.
The 355 delegates will decide whether he will continue to lead the party or leave the post of chairman, turning this meeting into a defining moment for LDK’s internal balance.
How the Extraordinary Assembly was called
According to LDK’s official version, the meeting was called after statutory procedures were fulfilled and the request received the support of at least one-third of the delegates, the threshold required to activate this mechanism within the party.
According to the party’s announcement, the General Secretariat verified that the conditions for carrying out the process had been met, while the date of the assembly was set by Abdixhiku himself based on the powers provided by the statute.
Political negotiations put on hold
The signatures for calling the assembly were submitted in mid-July. After this process began, Abdixhiku suspended negotiations on the formation of Kosovo’s new institutions until the confidence vote on him is completed.
This suspension places LDK’s internal process ahead of broader political developments in the country, showing that either crisis or consolidation within the party could also directly affect the pace of institution-building.
What is expected after the vote
If Abdixhiku wins the support of the delegates, he is expected to return to talks on the formation of the institutions. That move would come a few days before the constitutive session of the Assembly of Kosovo, scheduled for August 6.
LDK has said the process will be carried out in accordance with the statute, democratic principles, institutional transparency, and the will of the delegates. However, the real test of these claims remains the outcome of the vote itself and how its political consequences will be managed within the party.
Today’s vote is not simply an internal party procedure. It is expected to show whether Abdixhiku still retains political control over LDK, at a time when every move by the main parties directly affects either the unblocking or the deepening of Kosovo’s institutional deadlock.
