Two days after the major fire at a warehouse in Shkozet, the situation remains unstable. Isolated hotspots are reigniting from time to time, while smoke continues to spread over the area, increasing concern among families living near the burned building.
The smoke has not left the area
Residents near the warehouse say the problem did not end when the main flames were extinguished. According to information from the scene, there are still hotspots beneath the burned debris that continue to reactivate and release thick smoke.
The main concern is air pollution and the exposure of families to toxic smoke, which continues to blanket the area even two days after the incident.
Families caught between damage and lack of compensation
Among the hardest hit is the Hoxha family, whose home is next to the warehouse. The flames caused damage to the house, further worsening the family’s situation.
For them, this is the second blow within the year, as the home had also been damaged by flooding in January. So far, there has been no compensation in either case.
What was inside the warehouse
According to information from the scene, the warehouse engulfed by the flames contained vehicle tires, plastic materials and fireworks. These materials are suspected of having fueled the rapid spread of the fire and worsened air pollution.
Firefighters have continued intervening from time to time to extinguish hotspots that reignite beneath the rubble, indicating that the danger at the site has not been fully eliminated.
Arrest and investigation into the cause of the fire
A day earlier, police arrested the 38-year-old owner of the building, which had been rented for economic activity. According to the official version, he is suspected of setting fire to some cardboard outside the warehouse, but the flames got out of control.
Another rented building near the warehouse was also burned in the fire, while the 110-kilovolt line passing above the warehouse and the homes in the area was also damaged. Investigations are ongoing to clarify responsibility and the full circumstances of the incident.
The incident has left behind not only material damage, but also questions about safety, oversight of activity in the area and the lack of support for affected families.
For Shkozet residents, the problem is not only the fire that has passed, but the consequences that continue to hang over their homes.
