Ermal Beqiraj’s extradition to Albania remains in a waiting phase, while the procedure has still not reached the French side. In a high-profile case, the delay is linked to the translation of the materials that must be attached to the official request, raising questions about the pace of the institutional handling of the file.
The extradition request has still not reached France
The documentation for Ermal Beqiraj’s extradition has not yet been completed and, as a result, the request has not been submitted to the French authorities. This concerns the translation of the security measure decision issued in December 2025, as well as the acts from the investigative file that will be attached to the letter rogatory.
According to information reported by sources close to licensed French-language translators, the file remains in process and will require several more days to be procedurally completed. This means that, despite official announcements following Beqiraj’s arrest, the formal step toward the French justice system has still not been taken.
Bulky case file and slow procedural pace
The delay is justified by the volume of material that must be translated and included in the request. However, the fact that such a procedure still remains at the technical translation stage leaves open the debate over the real speed of coordination between institutions when it comes to cases carrying criminal and financial weight.
At the center of this procedure are not only the personal security acts concerning Beqiraj, but also the investigative documents expected to be used to support Albania’s extradition request.
SPAK warns of a second request over assets in France
In parallel with the extradition process, SPAK is also expected to send a second request for legal assistance to France. According to the official version, this request will seek the seizure of a castle, two airplanes, two houses and vehicles suspected of being linked to Ermal Beqiraj.
Beqiraj is wanted in connection with the AKSHI case and is suspected of a series of criminal offenses, including unlawful competition through violence, unlawful deprivation of liberty, violation of equality in public tenders or auctions, structured criminal group, commission of criminal offenses by a criminal organization, and laundering of the proceeds of criminal offense or criminal activity.
Red notice and assets identified abroad
According to data verified by the authorities, Beqiraj was declared internationally wanted with a red notice one day after the request by the Special Prosecution, dated December 24, 2025, addressed to the State Police and Interpol Tirana. The security measure imposed on him was “arrest in prison.”
SPAK has also announced that, from investigations conducted with the French authorities, several assets in France suspected of having a criminal origin have been identified. According to the official statement, these include bank accounts with a total value of more than 2 million euros, two apartments, the purchase of a castle in the Oise department worth around 2.6 million euros, as well as motor vehicles.
At this stage, the key element remains the fact that the extradition has still not entered the formal track with the French side. Until the documentation is completed and the request is submitted, the matter remains more at the level of announcements and unfinished procedures than an advanced extradition process.
