Fire near the substation in Elbasan burns olive grove parcel and raises safety questions

Flames near the 220 kV substation

The fire broke out about 100 meters from the Elbasan–Mjekës–Cerrujë–Gramsh 220 kV substation. The flames affected an area with olive trees, while smoke spread widely across the area.

The proximity to an important point in the energy network made the situation particularly sensitive, although according to information from the scene, the risk to the substation was avoided.

Response on the ground

According to reports from the scene, firefighting forces and the responsible structures were deployed on the ground to stop the spread of the flames.

After the intervention, the fire was contained and the flames were fully extinguished, preventing them from spreading to other surrounding areas.

Causes remain unclear

So far, there is no clear account of the origin of the fire. Authorities are expected to carry out investigations to determine how the fire started.

The lack of an immediate explanation for a fire so close to energy infrastructure leaves room for legitimate questions about risk control and preventive measures in such areas.

At this stage, no damage to the electrical substation has been reported, while damage was recorded in the olive grove parcel affected by the flames.

The focus now remains on investigating the causes and on an institutional clarification of the circumstances of a fire that developed near an energy facility of importance.
