A testimony from the scene sheds light on the first minutes of the fire that engulfed a hotel in the Lungomare area of Vlora. A young man from Poland said everything began with an unusual smell and with shouting that made holidaymakers realize that something serious was happening.

According to the Polish tourist’s account, the incident happened at around 04:00 in the morning. He said that he first noticed a strange smell and then heard screams.
“We felt a strange smell and heard shouting. It was around 4 o’clock, then we went to the window and saw what was happening. There were people asking for help,” he said.
