Deco admits Barcelona are looking for a new No. 9

After the 2-1 win over Al Ahly in the Joan Gamper Trophy, Deco gave a clear signal that Barcelona’s moves in the market are not over.

According to him, the departures of Lewandowski and Ferran have forced the club to reassess the balance in attack. He said Ferran’s role can be covered by the players already brought in, but replacing Lewandowski remains far more complicated.

Deco described the Pole as a player who marked an era at Barcelona and admitted that, although internal alternatives exist, the club is very likely to make another move in the transfer market.

No name, but the need has been declared

The sporting director did not reveal which striker is being targeted, keeping the same reserve that clubs usually maintain in the final days of the transfer window.

However, his message was direct: Barcelona are looking for a new centre-forward before the transfer window closes.

This suggests that the signings made so far are not considered enough to cover the weight Lewandowski carried on the front line.

Rodri, a transfer that emerged outside the initial plan

Deco also spoke about Rodri Hernández, one of the signings that has drawn the most attention in Barcelona’s transfer window.

According to his version, the Spanish midfielder was not part of the club’s initial plans because Barcelona did not see him as a player who was realistically available on the market.

Only after the opportunity arose to bring him in did the club decide to move. Deco placed this case in the same logic as other moves, arguing that every signing has been made with the idea of improving the team.

He denies a symbolic race with Real Madrid

Deco also rejected the interpretation that Rodri was signed to take a target away from Real Madrid.

He insisted that the transfer was not made for rivalry’s sake, but because the player is considered one of the best midfielders in the world and because, in the club’s view, he gives the team what it lacks.

In the same appearance, Deco also appeared calm about the registration of the reinforcements, stressing that Barcelona’s sporting project remains attractive to players.

On the eve of the transfer window closing, Barcelona have made one clear priority public: finding a striker who can carry the weight of Lewandowski’s legacy.

The name remains undisclosed, but Deco’s remarks make clear that the club does not yet consider its attacking department complete.
