The Tirana-Durrës highway will face temporary nighttime closures for three consecutive days at one of the most sensitive traffic junctions near Tirana. According to the official announcement from ARRSH, the restrictions are linked to works for the widening of the segment and the installation of metal beams at the new Kashar overpass.

When there will be closures on the highway
According to the plan made public by the road authorities, on September 1, 2 and 3, 2026, from 23:00 to 05:00, the traffic lanes in both directions of the Tirana-Durrës and Durrës-Tirana axis will be temporarily closed.
The intervention is being carried out as part of the project for the widening of the Tirana-Durrës expressway, phase three. This time, the works are specifically related to the installation of metal elements in the central space of the new Kashar overpass.
How traffic will be diverted from Tirana toward Durrës
According to the published scheme, vehicles traveling from Tirana toward Durrës will be diverted through the temporary ramp toward Rinas and will then continue on the secondary road.
Returning to the highway will be done via the Rinas road and the respective ramp toward Durrës. For heavy vehicles, especially trucks, the diversion will begin at the Casa Italia junction, with passage onto the secondary road.
Changes for the Durrës-Tirana direction
For vehicles coming from Durrës toward Tirana, the diversion will be carried out through the Kashar-Thumanë overpass. Vehicles will pass onto the secondary road on the left side and return to the highway after the Kashar overpass.
Meanwhile, vehicles bound for Rinas, Shkodër and Kosovo will be directed from the Kashar-Thumanë highway overpass in order to continue further according to their destination.
What the authorities are asking and what drivers should know
ARRSH says that throughout the intervention there will be temporary signage and personnel on the ground for traffic management. Drivers are asked to follow on-site directions and plan their route in advance.
For a road axis that for years has been marked by works, heavy traffic and frequent diversions, such restrictions remain another test of drivers’ patience and of the real capacity for traffic management at one of the country’s main entry and exit points.
For those traveling on this segment at night, avoiding the 23:00-05:00 interval on September 1, 2 and 3 remains the most practical solution to avoid delays and diversions.
The segment at Kashar is expected to be the most sensitive traffic point during these nights, especially for heavy vehicles and cars heading to Rinas Airport.
