A new GJKKO regulation has triggered a direct clash with lawyers. The National Chamber of Advocacy announced a boycott of court hearings starting today, calling for the immediate suspension of restrictions that, according to it, hinder the normal exercise of the defense.
The lawyers’ decision: boycott until the regulation is withdrawn
The National Chamber of Advocacy issued a decision to boycott court hearings until the suspension of the Special Court’s regulation, which bans the use of mobile phones in the courtroom.
According to the head of the Chamber of Advocacy, Maks Haxhia, the demand is the immediate suspension of this regulation. He clarified that the boycott will not apply to hearings related to security measures.
What GJKKO’s new regulation provides
The Special First Instance Court for Corruption and Organized Crime has approved a new regulation on entry into the building, attendance at court hearings, and media activity.
At the center of the debate is the ban on the use of mobile phones, a measure that has prompted an immediate reaction from lawyers and other parties affected by the restrictions.
Objections to the restrictions in the courtroom
These measures have been opposed by the parties directly affected by them, who have called for the regulation to be reviewed.
According to its opponents, the new practice creates an obstacle to day-to-day work and raises questions about how rules are being administered in a court with high public sensitivity.
The clash between GJKKO and the Chamber of Advocacy moves the debate beyond a technical measure, touching on the relationship between the security claimed by the institution and the actual functioning of the defense in the courtroom.
At this stage, the only exception to the boycott remains hearings on security measures, while the lawyers’ main demand is the suspension of the new regulation.
