Today’s plenary session in Parliament has concluded, while the departure of MPs from the building was accompanied by verbal tension outside the institution. Protesters greeted them with chants and the repeated slogan, “Your end has come,” in another sign of the heated political climate surrounding Parliament.
MPs left the Parliament building one by one
The session had begun at 17:00 and, after it ended, MPs started leaving the Parliament premises.
Democratic Party MPs left first, having boycotted the vote in the chamber. Socialist MPs then also came out.
Outside, the protest continued with direct chants against politics
At the exit of the building, protesters met political representatives with chants and cheers. The message heard repeatedly was: “Your end has come.”
The episode outside Parliament shifted attention from the votes inside the chamber to the discontent expressed in the street, at a time when trust in politics remains fragile.
The majority passed the votes on the changes in posts
Inside the session, according to the official voting result, the Socialists approved with 79 votes in favor the appointment of Klodiana Spahiu to the role of minister of Health.
Likewise, Evis Kushi officially moved to the post of deputy speaker of Parliament.
The end of the session did not ease tensions outside Parliament, where the protesters’ reaction accompanied MPs’ departure from the building until the very end.
On the institutional front, the majority secured the votes for the announced changes, while the opposition chose not to take part in the vote.
