The wildfire situation in Albania remains problematic, with 12 blazes still active in several counties, while institutions report increased engagement on the ground and from the air. According to the official tally, 22 fire outbreaks have been identified nationwide, but only one of them has been fully extinguished.
Official tally: 22 outbreaks, but 12 remain active
According to Civil Protection structures, 12 outbreaks are active, 9 are being kept under surveillance, and 1 has been extinguished. The operations involve 498 national and local forces and 314 members of the Armed Forces, together with firefighting vehicles, support vehicles, ambulances, a drone, and 4 helicopter operations.
The figures show a broad operational commitment; however, the map of active outbreaks across several counties indicates that the situation remains unresolved and sensitive, especially in areas with difficult terrain and forest massifs.
Tirana and Dibër, active fires in mountainous terrain
In Tirana County, the fire on Mount Dajti remains active in an area covered with beech forest and shrubs. Firefighters, forestry administration forces, the Armed Forces, vehicles, and a helicopter have been deployed on the ground. The official version says there is no risk to inhabited areas. Meanwhile, the outbreak in Kryezi of Kavaja has been extinguished, while the one on Mount Bërzhita is being monitored.
In Dibër County, the outbreaks in Vajkal of Bulqizë, Lundre–Madhesh in Mat, Qafa e Helmes in Bulqizë, and Cerrujë–Mali i Allushit in Klos remain active. In Lundre–Madhesh, the operation is also supported by the Armed Forces, vehicles, and an ambulance. Here too, institutions report that there is no danger to homes.
Lezhë and Shkodër, among the areas with the largest engagement
In Lezhë, the outbreaks in Gallatë of Kurbin and in the Kalivaç–Zimaj–Kashnjet area remain active. In Gallatë, according to the official report, intervention is being hampered by the terrain, while in the Kalivaç–Zimaj–Kashnjet area 100 local, forestry, and volunteer forces have been engaged, supported by 124 members of the Armed Forces, 16 vehicles, 2 ambulances, and 1 helicopter. No homes are reported to be at risk.
In Shkodër County, the situation is present at several points at once. The fire in Mnelë e Vogël of Vau i Dejës remains active and is also being supported by the Armed Forces, firefighting vehicles, and a helicopter. Work is also under way in the Bardhaj–Myselim area, while on Mount Tërbuni in Pukë the outbreak remains active in a pine forest. Other outbreaks in this county are being kept under surveillance.
Active outbreaks also in Elbasan and Vlorë, several other areas under monitoring
In Elbasan County, the fire in Gurëshpatë of Librazhd remains active, while the outbreak on Mount Qukësi in Prrenjas is under surveillance. In Vlorë, in Qesarat of Finiq, the fire that broke out during the day remains active and a helicopter has also been used in the response, while the outbreak in Bolenë of Himarë is being kept under observation.
In Fier, the outbreaks in Peshtan and Çërrilë are under surveillance to prevent reactivation. The same situation is reported in Kukës, where the outbreak in Mamëz is being kept under control, as well as in Durrës, where the fire in Halil of Krujë has been isolated and extinguished, but the area is being monitored.
Institutions say the priority remains the protection of life, homes, and citizens’ property. However, with 12 outbreaks still active in several counties, the situation remains sensitive and under operational pressure in some of the country’s most problematic areas.
