Klodiana Spahiu has officially taken office as Minister of Health and Social Welfare and, in her first public appearance, placed a direct promise at the center of her message: starting tomorrow at 08:00, a dedicated office will open for complaints and problems that citizens have not managed to resolve elsewhere. The statement comes in a sector where promises of improvement are many, while dissatisfaction with services remains constant.
Swearing-in and taking office
After being sworn in in the presence of President Bajram Begaj, Spahiu officially took over the leadership of the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare. At the introductory meeting, she said the citizen would be at the center of her work as minister.
The change at the head of the ministry comes after the resignation of Evis Sala a few days earlier. Spahiu takes office at a time when the healthcare system is facing strong demands for trust, functionality and faster responses to patients’ problems.
The promise of an office open from the morning
According to her statement, starting tomorrow an office will open and operate from 08:00 in the morning to hear and address problems that have not been resolved at other levels of the system.
She said the entire institution would be involved in this commitment, while the same approach, according to the version she presented, would also be followed by tertiary healthcare institutions. The political message is clear: the door is claimed to be open. The question remains how effective this office will be beyond the first public announcement.
Focus on trust and deadlines
In her remarks, Spahiu spoke about the need to restore trust and to set short-term and medium-term objectives with concrete deadlines. She stressed that the challenge in healthcare is multifaceted and that trust must be the main goal of everyone in the system.
This is a formulation that indirectly acknowledges an old problem in the sector: citizens’ lack of trust. However, at this stage, the minister has presented more direction and political messaging than detailed measures on how results will be measured.
Who is Klodiana Spahiu
Spahiu is a cardiologist and holds the title “Doctor of Medical Sciences.” She said she has spent 13 years as part of what she called the “battle of healthcare,” presenting herself as a figure with experience within the sector.
Her appointment opens a new phase in the leadership of healthcare, but expectations will quickly be tested on concrete problems: citizens’ access, the resolution of complaints and real improvement in services.
For now, the most concrete move announced is the office expected to open from 08:00. Whether this will be a real mechanism for solving problems or only a new administrative filter will be measured by how institutions respond to cases that today remain pending.
