AIM poll on SPAK and Rama: 44% call for early elections

A poll published by AIM shows that public perceptions of SPAK and corruption remain deeply divided, while responses on how Prime Minister Edi Rama should have reacted after Vlora Hyseni was placed under house arrest send a stronger political signal: a larger share of respondents called for early elections than approved of his response.

AIM poll on SPAK and Rama: 44% call for early elections

How the poll was presented

According to the published data, the electronic survey was conducted with 1,234 adult residents from across the country. The sample, according to the organizers, was selected randomly and statistically calibrated to represent the adult population from a demographic, geographic, educational, and political standpoint.

The maximum margin of statistical error was reported at plus/minus 2.8%, an important element for a careful reading of the figures, especially when the poll touches on politically charged issues such as corruption, SPAK, and the government’s relationship with public opinion.

SPAK and the dilemma over corruption

The main question in the poll was what the large number of SPAK criminal complaints says about corruption in the country. According to the published results, more than 55% of respondents said that this number shows corruption is being struck in Albania.

On the other hand, more than 43% gave the opposite reading, viewing the high number of complaints as an indicator of rising corruption. This split alone shows that SPAK’s activity is not being read uniformly by the public: for some it is seen as a sign that the phenomenon is being hit, while for others it is proof that the problem remains deep or is expanding.

About 1.5% of respondents said they were undecided on this question.

How the responses break down by political leaning

According to the poll, among those who believe corruption is being struck, the majority are longtime Socialist voters. This group also includes non-voters and voters of small parties.

Meanwhile, among respondents who think the large number of criminal complaints points to rising corruption, the majority are longtime PD-ASHM voters, as well as supporters of some small parties. This makes the reading of the figures closely tied to the political positioning of respondents, not simply to perceptions of justice.

Reaction to Rama after Vlora Hyseni’s house arrest

Another question in the poll concerned what response Prime Minister Edi Rama should have given after Vlora Hyseni was placed under house arrest. According to the results, 40% of respondents said Rama gave the right response.

On the other side, more than 44% said the prime minister should have announced early elections. Meanwhile, about 8% thought he should have offered a public apology, and almost another 8% said he should have resigned as prime minister.

The figures suggest that approval for Rama’s response is not an absolute majority and that dissatisfaction, in its various forms, is broader than outright support for the position he took.

The political base of responses about the prime minister

According to the published breakdown, those who consider Rama’s response correct are overwhelmingly longtime Socialist voters. On the other side, those who think he should have apologized publicly or resigned are mainly longtime non-voters.

The group calling for early elections consists, according to the same poll, overwhelmingly of PD-ASHM voters and voters of small parties. This shows that here too attitudes toward the prime minister are read strongly through a partisan filter, without diminishing the political fact that the call for early elections emerges as the most supported alternative in the poll.

Beyond how the figures are interpreted, the poll highlights a climate of mistrust and strong polarization, in which SPAK, corruption, and the government’s own responses are not producing a single reading in public opinion.

In this picture, the clearest political message remains that a considerable share of respondents were not satisfied with the prime minister’s response and voiced a harsher political demand: early elections.
