Urgent meeting after boycott was broken

The National Chamber of Advocacy has called an urgent meeting of the Disciplinary Committee at 12:00, following the participation of two lawyers, Leli Kaja and Gerta Gjoci, in hearings at the Special Court.

According to information reported in the media, the meeting is expected to review the position of the two lawyers, who did not join the boycott declared by the Bar Association.

Licenses also under discussion

The issue of the two lawyers’ licenses is also expected to be raised at the Disciplinary Committee table. So far, no decision has been announced publicly, but the meeting has been called specifically to assess whether there will be disciplinary measures.

The situation has placed the debate not only on the relationship between lawyers and the boycott, but also on the limits of action of the Chamber’s structures toward their members.

Why the clash with GJKKO began

The boycott was undertaken by the Bar Association as a form of protest against GJKKO’s regulation. According to the lawyers, this regulation undermines the exercise of their profession.

This is the core of the conflict: on one side, the lawyers’ opposition to the way the court’s functioning has been set up, and on the other, internal pressure on those who did not respect the boycott.

Objections also from the media

Reservations about GJKKO’s regulation have not been voiced only by lawyers. Representatives of the media have also raised objections, expressing concerns about the conditions of journalists’ access to the court.

This makes the debate broader than a corporate conflict within the legal profession, as it also affects the transparency of a key institution of special justice.

For the moment, it remains unclear whether the Disciplinary Committee will limit itself to reviewing the case or move toward concrete measures against the two lawyers.

What is known is that the clash over GJKKO’s regulation is producing direct consequences within the lawyers’ own ranks as well.
